Got Purpose?

Posted by admin | Posted in Self Improvement | Posted on 11-06-2011

Is your life on purpose? Does just the question stop you in your tracks? Have you been so caught up in the pace of our world that you’ve not even thought lately about whether or not your life is going in the right direction?

Of course, living a life on purpose starts with knowing what your purpose is. Are you crystal clear about what the purpose of your life is? If you aren’t sure, then you’ve just identified the place at which you should start a new life of purpose. Start by getting clear about what your purpose is. Don’t feel bad if you don’t already have this clarity. In a recent survey of more than 3000 people when asked the question, “What have you to live for?” 94 percent said they had no definite purpose for their lives — 94 percent! That leaves only 6 percent of us who know why we’re here. It’s no wonder we’re not a particularly happy society.

How can you know if you’ve hit your purposeful stride? The life you lead should be a full expression of your purpose. Those of us on the outside looking in should be able to figure out atleast the broad scope of your purpose just by looking at your actions. The person you are should be a reflection of your purpose.

Knowing your purpose however is really only the start. Many people feel they know their purpose but also realize that their life doesn’t reflect it. In other words, they aren’t living true to it. When you’re living your purpose your life and the person you are become perfect reflections of it.

The good news is that it’s not too late. It is possible to start living on purpose immediately, even before you clearly know your purpose. Because asking yourself, “who am I and what is my life for?” begins to move your life into a new direction. It all starts when you ask the question. Don’t stop with just asking the question. Answer it as well. Then get busy becoming.

“Seek and you will find. Ask and it will be given unto you.”

Make this week really count. Discover and start living your purpose.

Thanks for sitting with me.

Live some. Love some. Learn some. Everyday.

Put a Couple of Elephants on Your Plate

Posted by admin | Posted in Self Improvement | Posted on 02-06-2011

How do you eat two elephants? The same way you would eat one; one bite at a time. Monstrous tasks often appear to be complex and overwhelming. That’s why it’s so very important to isolate the parts from the whole. Break your elephant-sized project into several smaller tasks. Identify one area and cut it down to size. Lather, rinse, and eat. The key is to begin! It doesn’t matter if you have or elephants on your agenda. Put one of them on your plate today. Target one part, and start!

Every one on us-including the most seasoned trainer-can benefit from a review of the basic principles for effectively conquering even the most monstrous task on our agenda. However, doing so requires following specific steps. The first step is to commit to the completion of your project. Two, identify and secure the tools and resources you will need. And three, write down the time and day you expect to have your project completed. Many people know what they need to achieve, but they fail to take these preliminary steps. Simply taking these steps will increase your efficiency, accelerate your success and get it all done, sooner.

Create Your Own Systems for Success

A great time to go to work on your task is?during your peak period of productivity. Critical is identifying or creating new systems for your success. For example, when approaching piles of paper, separate and shred on Tuesday, file and process on Wednesday, and repeat until you’re finished. Give yourself permission to ask for help when tackling large tasks. Have a “dinner party” with the perfect ambiance and double your efficiency. Make sure your environment is climate-controlled and the appropriate amount of light. Remember, your life is full of distractions, don’t allow the phone, doorbell, uninvited guests or disempowering thoughts to interrupt your “meal.”

Challenge Yourself

Challenge yourself to take 20 “bites” or more every day until you complete your task. Competing against yourself can actually make your project fun. Feeling a bit full after just a few bites? Take a 10 – 15 minute break to digest. Go for a walk, check in with a loved one or read a magazine. Then, pull up your sleeves and go right back to the table.

Begin Today

Take the thirty or more minutes you would normally spend watching TV, and put an elephant or two on your plate, today. Dig in! You’ll not only produce greater personal and professional results, you’ll take a bite out of wasted time.

Are YOU Ready For Bonza Bottler Day?

Posted by admin | Posted in Self Improvement | Posted on 01-06-2011

BONZA BOTTLER DAY is any day when the date and the month have the same number. Bonza, I’m told, means “excellent” or “really great” in Australian, and there’s some suggestion that “bottler” means the same.

Bonza Bottler is a “just because” kind of holiday, started a decade or so ago by the late Elaine Fremont who believed the world needed more holidays. On BBD, we are called to let loose, just for the joy of it, and Ms Fremont’s original wish was that we celebrate without alcohol or other artifical stimulants. Celebrate using just our natural ability to be joyous — even in hard times, letting this part of ourselves play out . . . come out to play. Think of Snoopy, dancing madly to music maybe only he can hear. Think of Shrek and Princess Fiona, giggling and roughhousing as they walk through a field.

Wicki, our Boston Terrier, is a great believer in “just because.” She loves to wrestle with Dudney, our 12-year-od cat, and we, in turn, never tire of watching the two of them pouncing and leaping and rolling around. Dogs and cats are not supposed to play together — their styles are too different, says Conventional Wisdom. But for nearly 4 years now, cat-dog play has been a regular and delightful aspect of our family life.

If they can do it, why can’t we? Play, that is. Just because. Take time out from the Tasks of Life, step aside from our accustomed ways of being, and Celebrate. Why? Just because. May you enjoy your own Bonza Bottler Day. This month. This week. Why not today?
